The cast iron platform is difficult to cast without stiffeners (Reinforcing ribs). The stiffeners can act as the internal runner of the cast iron platform to help fill the mold cavity and help the molten iron inject into the support section of the cast iron platform. stiffeners can effectively increase the rigidity and strength of the cast iron platform without greatly increasing the section area.

 

Because of using stiffeners to improve the structural strength of the cast iron mold, it is helpful to prevent platform from cracking due to excessive internal stress. The strength of the cast iron mold against thermal expansion and contraction is increased, extending the service life.

 

The cast iron platform is generally arranged on the bottom non-contact surface when designing the stiffener. Its extension direction follows the direction of the maximum stress and maximum offset. The length of the stiffener is the same as the length of the cast iron platform. The two ends are connected to the cast iron platform, or the same as the overall length of the cast iron platform.

 

The simplest shape of the reinforcement ribs is that several reinforcement ribs form many square or rectangular grids attached to the bottom surface of the cast iron platform. However, in order to meet some production or structural requirements, the shape and size of the reinforcement ribs can be according to actual requirements.
