What can we do to prevent cast iron plate deformation
2021-05-10 11:45:45

Cast iron platesare often scrapped due to cold cracking or deformation because of exceeding the size tolerance. When the requirements are not so strict, the cold crack can be repaired by welding. Cast iron plates whose deformation exceeds the tolerance can still be used after mechanical correction. But repair and correction not only increase the cost but also reduce the quality.

Therefore, when drawing up the casting process, care should be taken to prevent cold cracking and excessive deformation of the cast iron plate. The fundamental way to prevent those problems is to try to reduce the casting stress, and sometimes other technological measures are used.

The following measures can be taken from the casting process:

1. Use anti-deformation pattern or core box. According to the deformation law of the cast iron plate, design and manufacture the pattern and core box with the same amount of deformation as the cast iron plate but in the opposite direction. This pattern or core box is called the pattern and core box with anti-deformation amount. Using the anti-deformation model, the size and shape of the cast iron plate just meet the requirements of the drawing after cooling and deformation.

2. To prevent excessive deformation of the cast iron plate, setting a "beading".

3. Improve the design of cast iron plate structure.

4. Control the unboxing time of the cast iron plate. Unboxing the box too early, the temperature of the cast iron plate is high, and cooling in the air will increase the temperature difference between the inside and the outside, then causing deformation and cracking. Properly delay the unboxing time will allow the cast iron plate to cool slowly in the sand mold, in order to avoid cracking and reduce deformation. But for some cast iron plates with complex structures, cold cracks may be caused due to poor collapsibility of sand molds or sand cores. At this time, break the sand cores as early as possible, and leave the cast iron plates in the sand molds to cool them to avoid cracks.

5. Improving the rigidity of the mold and increasing the weight of the iron can reduce the amount of flexural deformation of the cast iron plate.
