Cast iron slab should be based on the quality of castings when selecting the pouring position. Generally speaking, the following principles should be paid attention to:

 

1. The surface or main processing surface with high quality requirements on the casting should be placed under the mold. If this is not possible, the surface can be placed on the side of the mold or placed obliquely for pouring.

 

2. For some castings that need to be fed, the thicker section should be placed on the upper or side of the mold. This facilitates the placement of the riser on the thick wall of the casting, resulting in a good sequential solidification, which is conducive to the feeding of the casting.

 

3. The thin-walled part with a large area is placed in the lower part of the mold, and at the same time, the thin-walled part should be placed upright or tilted as much as possible, which is conducive to the filling of the metal. It puts a large area of thin-walled part of the casting under the casting, so that this part can fill the mold under the higher metal liquid pressure to prevent insufficient pouring.

 

4. For castings with a large surface, the large surface of the casting should be placed under the mold. For example, when pouring a cast iron slab with ribs, the large surface of the casting should be placed under the mold, so that the large surface of the casting is not prone to defects such as sand inclusions.

 

5. For castings with mud cores, the mud cores should be placed firmly and easily inspected when the box is closed. Because the mud core is long and the rigidity is not enough, under the buoyancy of the molten metal, if the mud core is bent and deformed. It can be changed to vertical pouring, which can avoid the occurrence of the above-mentioned undesirable situations.
