According to the fracture color
1. Gray cast iron: Most or all of the carbon in this cast iron exists in the form of flake graphite in a free state, its fracture is dark gray, has certain mechanical properties and good cutting performance, and is widely used in industry;
2. White cast iron: White cast iron is an iron-carbon alloy that has no or almost no graphite in its structure. Its fracture surface is white and bright, hard and brittle, and cannot be machined. It is rarely used directly in industry. Mechanical parts, also known as chilled cast iron or chilled cast iron due to their high surface hardness and wear resistance;
3. Makou cast iron: Makou cast iron is a kind of cast iron between white cast iron and gray cast iron.
According to chemical composition
1. Alloy cast iron: It is a high-grade cast iron prepared by adding some alloying elements to ordinary cast iron to improve some special properties, such as various corrosion-resistant, heat-resistant and wear-resistant cast irons with special properties;
2. Ordinary cast iron: refers to cast iron without any alloying elements, such as gray cast iron, malleable cast iron, ductile iron, etc.
According to production method and organizational performance
1. Inoculated cast iron: This is based on gray cast iron, and is made of "metamorphic treatment", also known as metamorphic cast iron. Its strength, plasticity and toughness are much better than general gray cast iron, and the structure is relatively uniform. It is mainly used to manufacture large castings with high mechanical properties and large changes in section size;
2. Malleable cast iron: Malleable cast iron is made of white cast iron with a certain composition degraded by graphite, which has higher toughness than gray cast iron, also known as ductile cast iron. It cannot be forged and is often used to manufacture castings that withstand impact loads;
3. Ductile iron: referred to as ductile iron, it is obtained by adding a certain amount of nodularizing agent and inking agent to the molten iron before casting to promote the crystallization of spherical graphite. Compared with steel, it has similar properties except for its lower plasticity and toughness. It is an excellent material with the advantages of both steel and cast iron, and is used in mechanical engineering;
4.Cast iron with special properties: This is a kind of cast iron with certain properties, which can be divided into wear-resistant cast iron, heat-resistant cast iron, corrosion-resistant cast iron and so on. Most of them belong to alloy cast iron, which is more widely used in machinery manufacturing.
